Sake: Wine of the Rising Sun

Sake

Sake is a rice wine traditionally made in Japan. It is a great and exotic way to entertain your guests. Some rice wines we recommend include Shinichiro's brand Sake, Yoshi's Special Sake, and also Takanawa's Okinawan Sake from a tiny island off the coast of Japan. Sake is often served warm and in tiny shot glasses. It has a very distinct odor. It smells more like vodka than it does normal wine which often smells like grapes. Since it's made through the extraction of rice juice, it does have the smell of steamed rice especially when warm. The color is also different. It has no color. It is clear.

Sake and Sushi

Sake is often served best with sushi and other seafood. Sashimi, raw tuna, is a very popular dish to eat with sake in Japan. In America, a popular social drink is the Sake Bomb in which the drinker places a shot of sake on top of a glass of Japanese beer on chopsticks. Before drinking, the drinker pounds the table until the shot glass falls into the glass mixing the sake with the beer and then chugs the concoction immediately. Sake, in Japan, is often served at get-togethers and other special occasions. It is usually consumed in the evening since in Japan it is frowned upon to drink too early in the day. No matter what the occasion, sake is a great wine to drink. So have fun and drink safely and moderately. Till next week. Cheers!
