How to Uncork A Wine Bottle
There are two ways to open a wine bottle. There is the wrong way and there is the right way. I am going to teach you the right way, of course. My name is Jean-Jacque. I have been a sommelier for about 10 years so I am basically an expert when it comes to opening wine bottles. I've been featured on Sommelier Weekly as Sommelier of the Year. I've also been featured on various television shows on the Wine Network. Okay, now to open a wine bottle follow these few easy steps.
What you'll need to do is first gather the materials. You'll need a cork screw like the one shown above or the one to the left, a small dry towel, and of course, an unopened bottle of wine. After you've gathered those materials, hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle with the big round butt of it to your belt buckle and with the corked end facing upward. Make sure not to point it at anybody's face. You don't want to take anybody's eye out.
Place the corkscrew onto the middle of the cork and twist it until the screw goes all the way through the cork. Be careful when doing this. You don't want to break the cork. You want to be able to pull the cork out whole and not in broken bits. You may want to save the cork to close the bottle and save the wine for later. Once it's through the cork, put your left hand around the neck of the bottle with the towel and then with your right hand squeeze the clamps until the cork wedges out of the bottle. And voila! You've opened the bottle! Now pour and enjoy!
